MARIE BYRD LAND CONTROL
Flood Range to Mount Murphy Area
1967-68 Season
Engineers: Jack Harry, Charles Henkle, Lenny Hill, Tom Taylor
Terrestrial survey network employing Wild T-2 theodolite for angular measurements and Electro-tapes for distance measurements.
DKM-3A used for astro measurements.

BYRD STATION TRAVERSE
1959-60 Season
Engineer: William H. Chapman
Intersected peak positions determined from primary traverse stations determined by solar position at M639. (Adjusted to Marie Byrd Land Electronic Traverse of 1966-67-68)
Elevations determined by altimeter traverse based on Byrd Station elevation of 1530 meters (The altimetry elevations have been adjusted to agree with the elevations determined from the Marie Byrd Land Electronic Traverse of 1966-67-68).
Wild T-2 used for angular measurements.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE RANGE TRAVERSE
1959-60 Season
Engineer: William H. Chapman
Solar position at Mile 251 is the horizontal datum used to determine the horizontal positions of intersected map control points in the Executive Committee Range.
Elevations determined by altimeter traverse based on Byrd Station elevation of 1530 meters
Wild T-2 used for angular measurements.

Horizontal Datum - Positions are based on the Astronomic Position of Snoopy Astro determined during the 1967-68 Season.

Vertical Datum - Mean sea level

* A - Astronomical

B- Beaconed - Signal/Cairn & monumented

U - Unbeaconed - Occupied, monumented

O - Occupied, unmonumented

I - Intersected

# Unchecked elevation

** These stations are unidentifiable

+ Quality rating (1:best: 3:worst)

The relative strength of position value shown on the Control Points Coordinates list for each quadrangle is not an indicator of the accuracy. It is a number assigned by the USGS based on the number of checks obtained for that survey point.

As an example, an occupied point with several connections to the surrounding network is a 1 (highest reliability). Whereas, a point positioned by two rays intersecting has no check and is assigned a value of 3 (lowest reliability).

(1). Indicates a checked occupied station.

(2). Intersected with 3 or more directions.

(3). Intersected station with no checks - uncertain position - use with caution.

The Marie Byrd Land survey networks are individual networks with positions based on astronomic observations taken during the field season of that survey and were established to provide control for mapping using aerial photographs.
