1977-78 Season
Engineers: David Reed, Eberhand G. Schirmacher, Robin Schumtzler,
and Harry Zohn, Jr.
Intersected peak positions determined by terrestrial surveys
employing Wild T-2 theodolite for angular measurements and Electro-tapes
for distance measurements from positions developed by geoceiver (Doppler)
observations.
Elevations based on sea level using the NASA Goddard Earth
Model (GEM) 10B.
Located in Ellsworth Land approximately midway between the Sweeney Mountains
and Hauberg Maountains, approximately 45 km NNE of Thomas Mountains, approximately
44 km NNW of Mt. Leek, and approximately 30 km S of Mt. Edwards on the E
most nunatak in the Witte Nunataks, monumented station.
Survey mark - Standard USGS tablet set in drill hole in large rock covered
by 1.5 meter rock cairn, stamped "CAROL 1977-1978".
Surveyed on 30 November 1977.
Horizontal Datum - The positions are based on WGS 66 datum. The adjusted
network was fitted to the geoceiver stations by a least squares transformation
and the residuals were less than two meters.
Vertical Datum - Geodetic heights corrected to the geoid using NASA
GEM 10B. No direct connections to sea level were made.
